This is the "About Me" or the "Introductory Blog Assignment" for GED 512.

My name is Becky Hill.

School: I did not go to Kindergarten because in rural Minnesota, they did not have kindergarten yet (yes, I'm the older grey haired lady in the class).  So I then went to K-12 at the following places: Minnesota, California and upstate New York.  Then I got my undergraduate degree in math at UCLA.  I obtained my teaching credential at Cal Poly Pomona and am now in the Masters program for Educational MultiMedia.
I have a daughter whose family is now living in Japan until next September.  She has two sons who are very dear to me.  I am currently substitute teaching at several school districts, though applying for a full time teaching position (received my credential last December).  Former profession: mathematician, programmer (Fortran), engineer.

On the technology continuum, I'm not very savvy.  I've programmed (a long time ago, actually started with stacks of cards).  I've also used computers to analyze test data, create presentations, plots, etc.  However..... I do not have any social network accounts and no smart phone or iPad, etc.  So I'm not really knowledgeable about the latest technology.  I like technology, as I learn about it but being so far behind others, I'm frequently in a position where there is too much new material all at once.

Why I'm in the Masters of Educational Multimedia program: I truly enjoy learning.  As I mentioned in the previous paragraph, I'm very behind the general public in understanding the latest technology and I'd like to learn about it.  I was particularly interested in this class and perhaps 513 because of the insight they will provide.   What I will do with my degree is still in work.

  1. Hi Becky, it's nice to see you again. I find it fascinating that your daughter's family is living in Japan. I have never been there myself but I always see it as such a futuristic country with all of it's technological advances. Well, I'll see you in class next week.

  2. I think the best gift we can give ourselves is the love of learning. Your going back to school to improve your skills and learn new technology should be an inspiration to your current students.

  3. Hello Becky, it is so good to be in class with you again. Your background sounds so amazing. Personally, I have never been that great at math, and am amazed at those who are. My niece just moved back to the states from Japan. She is in the navy, and was living there when the big storm hit. Getting your credential first, then your masters sounds like a smart move. Lately, I have been rethinking the order and progression of my educational goals. Perhaps I will put my masters on hold, and put my vocational credential on the front burner.
